Facade for San Lorenzo – Student Work

Below are examples of several of my Utah Valley University students’ design projects. The focus of the project centered around designing a new elevation for the unfinished facade for the Basilica of San Lorenzo in Florence, Italy. The project required students to select a mentor architect from the Renaissance and learn from their body of work. Each student was to design as if they were an apprentice to their mentor architect by using a similar design language. In the context of a course on architectural history, this project was designed to help history come alive for the students by engaging them on a different level of learning.
